Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is a procedure where the inner chamber of the tooth containing the pulp tissue is removed, disinfected, filled and sealed.  This treatment is often recommended when a tooth has a very deep cavity, a traumatic injury, an infection, or when the pulp tissue becomes inflamed or dies.

In many cases root canal therapy is the only alternative to having a tooth extracted.  Usually a root canal procedure takes one or two visits to complete after which the tooth requires a permanent restoration to close and strengthen the tooth.  The tooth may require a post and almost always requires a crown to restore the tooth to proper form and function.
